Books About Tom McCall

Picture
McCallandia
by Bill Hall

McCallandia is a novel of alternate history that imagines a world where Tom McCall was chosen as the new vice president of the United States in 1973 instead of Gerald Ford and then became president following Richard Nixon's resignation the next year. Author Bill Hall has been a fan of McCall for more than forty years and was a volunteer in his 1978 comeback campaign. McCallandia is a novel, but it's based on extensive research and several interviews with people close to McCall. Readers will gain a new appreciation for McCall the man, what he accomplished during his time as governor, what a McCall presidency could have meant for the country, and how his legacy remains relevant today.

The McCall Initiative: Episodes1.1-1.3
Lisa Nowak

(It was the research for this book that inspired the author to launch the Tom McCall Legacy Project.)

What if the Pacific Northwest seceded from United States? In 2063, it has.

The climate change that’s devastated all but the Northwest corner of the U.S. has been around since before Piper Hall was born. She doesn’t spend much time thinking about it, the secession that created Cascadia, or the closed border, erected to keep out climate refugees. All she wants is to get through high school and earn a degree in medicine so she can pull her family out of poverty. Piper’s sure her little brother's stories about poor people vanishing are just rumors—until she comes home to an empty house. Losing her future, her family, and her freedom and forced into hiding, Piper has to find a way to get to the bottom of the disappearances. But the only one who can help might be the very boy whose family has displaced her own.

This collection includes episodes 1.1-1.3 (Deception, Revelation, and Conspiracy) of the nine-part, first season of The McCall Initiative, a story told in serial form.
